| The "16 Minute Survey" |
[Aug. 22nd, 2006|10:59 am] |
It only took sixteen minutes because I heard a ruckus in the closet. There are a lot of boxes in there and Chase likes to climb on them to get on the top shelf in there. I thought he was up there and I was saying "Chase, get down" and he wasn't replying. Usually he meows. Then I turned on the light and he meowed, but I looked down and he had fallen into the big box that my computer case came in!

So maybe one day I'll do a real entry... maybe.
Only doing this to waste time.

| Letter! |
[May. 10th, 2006|09:43 am] |
If you want, comment on this entry and I will give you a letter. Write five words beginning with that letter in your journal, including an explanation of what the word means to you and why, and then pass out letters to those who want to play along.
Erica gave me D.
1. Darrell AKA Dad. Last year was a rough year for him and the rest of us. He battled colon cancer and won. A+ pa, I love you!
2. Dogs. I absolutley love them and had the chance to work with them. I couldn't imagine not having any in my life!
3. Dairy. I love milk, I love cream, I love cheese, I love ICE CREAM, and I love anything that's made with DAIRY PRODUCTS.
4. Driving. I miss driving around aimlessly looking for something to do. I can't afford to do that anymore. $3.30/Gal does not allow it.
5. Deke. My kitty back in Ohio! He's not extremely lovable, but when he is it makes you feel special. :)
Anyone?? Bueller? |

| | accomplished | ] | What? Am I updating? It looks like I am! Indeed there must be something of high importance that has come up in my life. What is it? What... is... it...? OH! I remember now. EVERYTHING. Everything has come up!
My Pa: Finally cancer free! Though this is old news by a couple months for some, it hasn't been noted in the LJ, so there it is for those who didn't know.
My Ma: Diningroom makeover -- her hint to me was a picture of what looked like a painted wall... it was LIME GREEN. This will be interesting.
My brother and his family: Bought a house on some land with a pond! And got a new Rotweiler puppy named Duchess. I cannot wait to see the house and the dog.
As for everything surrounding me, there's quite a bit! Jamie secured his new job as an IT director of sorts (they have yet to pin down his exact title) and found out he will have quite a decent salary. After learning this we mutually decided that the 1 bed plus den apartment we were looking at for $1460 a month can be replaced by the 2 bed 2 bath 1100 square foot apartment for probably $1600 or $1700. I know those of you NOT in California will think these costs to be outrageous and I agree. But in the area, $1700 for 1100 square feet on the first floor is a GREAT DEAL. You can get an idea of the apartment here if you like.
My job is out of home. Jamie was doing contract work for dentist.net doing all of their web updates. (such as this item sold out so mark that on the website) He was being pulled on to do other work and suggested they pay me to help out. Well that lead to steady part time hours (probably closer to full time when Jamie starts his job in July) and $15 an hour! Holy crap! Yeah, definitely awesome for NOT having a degree in anything, and for it NOT being a factory job? Yes. Awesome.
Also, since I work from home I've embarked on a little business venture. It is called Pretties. You can see the website which is not up yet at prettiesgiftsets.com. Nothing there yet, but check out the MySpace page for real info! I'm selling handbag gift sets! I use the handbag as the carrier and in it will be accessories to go with it. My first run with trying to sell my product will happen this or next week after the rest of my products come in. It'll start with ebay, but if it successful I'll have a shopping cart on the website for it.
And to get me out of the house? I'm auditioning at a community theater for Narnia the Musical! Hopefully I'll get cast so I can meet some new people and have a hobby again. I've missed theater terribly! I haven't done a show since this time in 2002! That definitely sucks. So wish me luck on the audition!
OOOooh and I'm still going to be in Ohio next month! Hooray! |

Just a random post. Well, any post from me is random these days. Just thought I'd take a few minutes to state that the tickets have been purchased and I will be in Ohio June 7-13! Hooray for that, eh?
I thought so, too. |

| UPDATE! |
[Sep. 28th, 2005|12:52 pm] |
I immediately thought of Unsolved Mysteries when I wrote update. Like "UPDATE. The missing children were found living with what we believe to be a large gnome under a bridge in france..."
My update isn't nearly as interesting, but hey, it's a friggin update!
I've been working pretty hard at my two jobs so that I can live close to comfortably and pay all my bills in full and on time. It's been helpful, but I am very tired. Lately I have been looking on craigslist and such and sending out resumes to anyone that might pay me at least 10 bucks an hour for full time. One of my submissions happened to be to a staffing company. I wanted to stay away from that and get a job on my own, but it turns out that these people are really helpful.
I met with my "Staffing Consultant" yesterday to go over my resume and some of my skills. I also took a Microsoft Word test, a typing test (55WPM hooray!), and an attention to detail test. After that she spoke with me about a client that was interested in me that I might be interested in working for. It sounds really cool, it's for a reception position at an upscale grooming salon in Los Angeles. I would be making 10 bucks an hour and I'm guessing there might be a little bit of sales to it since she mentioned commission also (which she said averages at about 400 bucks a month! hooray for that!). The client also requested someone who wouldn't get starstruck being as they have some celebrities that bring their dogs there. So THAT's definitely exciting. So I guess I'd have to just put on my professional face and realize that they are humans too, and they are not that special just because I've seen them on TV. haha and hopefully I won't turn into some annoying namedropper if I get the job. I've run into a few of those while out here. Boo.
Well that's about it. I need something to sip on, and then I have to go to work. Boo that. |

Hello??
Hi. It's been a while. I'm pretty sure that I start most of my entries like that. It's always a while.
So today is Sunday, I'm off of BOTH jobs and I'm relaxing in my terry cloth tube top and seeing clearly through my new black rimmed (and very emo looking) glasses. Note the new icon. Terrible picture of my face, but a neat mirror shot. I swear the only photoshopping was blackening out everything in the background. I need a nice camera. I think I would enjoy getting into real photography.
"Great... now I got a hair stuck in my tooth." That's what my roommate just said to her boyfriend. Maybe I should close my door. *closes door*
T-minus 11 days til take off. Yup, Jamie and I are going to ohio on the 18th. We'll be arriving in Geneva probably close to 1:30 or 2am that night. My mom is expecting us, my dad hasn't a clue. Hey pa! Whatcha doin'?
I think it will be difficult to control my emotions that night. I will be so happy to see him, but I will be so sad to see him as skinny and unwell as he is.
For those of you who might not know, my dad found out he had colon cancer in January AFTER I was home visiting. By March he was carrying a chemo pouch that pumped it through a tube in his chest straight to his heart and going once a week for radiation therapy. He did that for a month or so, then rested until it was time for his surgery scheduled for the beginning of July.
I thought we had seen the worst, but now that he's been cut from ribs to abdomen, he's having a terrible time getting back to normal. He's lost over all about 55 lbs since January. He now weighs about 180 lbs and does NOT have a beer belly! His incision and his insides don't bother him much anymore, and he's been sleeping more in his bed than on the couch, but he's tired. He's so thin because he doesn't eat. He doesn't eat because it still doesn't taste good. It doesn't taste good because of the left over anesthetic in his body. Hopefully this will wear off soon so he can get moving. He stopped trying to be active and has come up with a sore tail bone from sitting on his bum. I was happy to hear that he was working in his garden when I called the other day.
Through this whole thing I've been on the phone with him being supportive. When he would talk so negatively about things, I would turn them around and show him the positive. I think he liked that. I could usually get him in a better mood by the end of our phone conversations... which is a nice feeling. I think the worst part about this whole thing was talking to my mom last week. It was the first time that I had talked to her and she was feeling really down about it all. Up until then she had been in the same mind frame as me. Keeping positive. But taking care of him had really hit her hard. She was getting physically and emotionally exhausted. I had to fight back some tears while listening to her talk like that. But when I talked to her the other day she was feeling better. She was happy to see my dad out in the garden, and not in pain. Jason and the kids were over. The kids were in the pool and Jason was weed whacking around the pond (the old fashioned way, with a scythe!) and my dad went out and walked with him using the skimmer to pull the cut weeds out of the water. I felt much better talking to them that day.
So I'm looking forward to seeing them all. It might be difficult at times, but it will be good for me, and probably really good for my dad to see me. He'll be happy to see Jamie again, too. I can take care of him, if only for a few days. But I think I might have to pass on changing his ileostomy bag (poop bag!)! TMI, maybe.
So I'm back at Sally's for about 32 hours a week, and 8.88 an hour. Definitely more helpful than 20 hours at Payless for 7.50 an hour. I have my car now and that helps tons even though I have to pay for it. But that's what Sally's is for. I've been working at the groomers since I started Sally's only 15 hours a week, and 6.75 an hour. I love it there mostly because of the dogs. It will be sad to leave them, but I got an offer from Jamie (huh? yeah my boyfriend) to work with him for dentist.net. He gets paid 12 bucks an hour. I would also get paid 12 bucks an hour. So I accepted. At the end of this month I will be quitting Go Dogs Go and working from home on dentist.net with Jamie. It will bring in about twice as much money as working at the groomers... and that's what I need. So hooray for that.
On that note I have to go brush my teeth and go to the ATM then pay some bills! (boo) |

01) My uncle once: Smacked Hannah in the back of the head because he "hasn't picked on [her] in a long time." 02) Never in my life: have I kicked a stranger in the shin on purpose. 03) When I was five: I wanted to be a model. Yeah, seriously. 04) High school was: great for socializing. haha 05) I will never forget: Everything that we found fun in Geneva and the surrounding areas. 06) I once met: Dennis from FM. But so have a lot of people. 07) There's this girl I know who: just got her boobs done. 08) Once, at a bar: another uncle of mine whom has never had the urge to show affection towards me made me give him a hug and a kiss on the cheek. It was at the VFW with my dad. 09) By noon I'm usually: ending work to start the other work. 10) Last night: I got friggin sick! I had to fall asleep sitting against the head board because if I laid down I was probably going to puke all over. 11) If I only had: a hundred more dollars to get my hair done... but alas it'll stay drab and root-ful. 12) Next time I go to church: will probably not be very soon. 14) I have a confession to make: my boss somewhat favors me and I use that to my advantage sometimes. 15) When I turn my head left, I see: Jamie! :) 16) When I turn my head right, I see: ...dirty laundry... :( 18) Every day, I constantly think about: how I'd like to work part time and still be able to afford to live. 19) If I was a character written by Shakespeare, I'd be: your mom. I dunno... I don't know Bill's works to the fullest. 20) By this time next year: my pa will hopefully be all healed and cancer free! 21) A better name for me would be: Kat. I had a girl at payless call me Kat for like, 2 weeks... then eventually I think she realized that there wasn't a Kat on the schedule. haha 22) I have a hard time understanding: boys. 23) If I ever go back to school I'll: end up grooming either animals or humans. 24) You know I like you if: I actually respond to what you say to me. 25) If I won an award, the first person I'd thank would be: the little people... haha 26) Darwin, Mozart, Slim Pickens & Geraldine Ferraro: would be great names for pets. haha 27) Take my advice, never: leave old tea in your room... especially when someone could mix it up with their own new tee. 28) My ideal breakfast is: fffreeeennnncchhh toooaasstt! wooo 29) A song I love, but do not have is: lots of songs. 30) If you visit my hometown, I suggest: Reese's Drug Store for a fountain drink or a chocolate malt, and mini-golfing at Allison's. Things that aren't that great when you live there, but fuck it, you're visiting like a tourist and they're dorky and fun! 31) Tulips, character flaws, microchips & track stars: all have entered my life somehow. 32) Why won't anyone: understand me? 33) If you spend the night at my house: make sure you take me out to breakfast in the morning! ;) 34) I'd stop my wedding for: an allergic reaction that was taking over my face. Hopefully that won't happen. 35) The world could do without: ridiculous traffic. 36) I'd rather lick the belly of a cockroach than: lick the belly of a spider! 37) My favorite blonde is: natural. 38) Paper clips are more useful than: smelly feet. 39) If I do anything well, it's: laughing. 40) And by the way: I don't feel like going to work right now. 41) The last time I was drunk, I: was in Huntington Beach with Jamie, Gabe, Liset, and Hugo. |

Woooo another EQ! I was at work this time and felt it come up and really rattle us. More than the last one since it was closer, but nothing strong enough to knock stuff around... at least not HERE in Long Beach. |

woo craziness. Woke up from being half asleep this morning to the house shaking. I saw the walls swaying. I woke Jamie up "babe, we're having an earthquake" and he replies "I was just going to sleep through it"
So I layed in bed while the earth shook for about 5 seconds. Here in Long Beach it was probably about a 3, but in the epicenter way out in prolly no-where land it was a 5.5 ... It's crazy how different they can feel. This one went back and forth, and the one I felt a couple months ago in Escondido was more of a roll from one side of the house to the other. Luckily though, these have been small enough to not be frightening, but this one was big enough to be somewhat exciting.
So that's that. I've got to go sell some shoes. |

OOOoooohhhh man. So random, so whatever. Today was... ehh... life has been... good. So the other day I bought a car. This decision has since proven a good one. For now. I haven't paid any bills on it yet though... we'll see how it goes. As for now it's nice to be able to go wherever whenever. Hooray for not riding the bus anymore.
I worked this morning. I'm not sure if you all know... I've been working part time at a dog groomers. I like it. Hooray puppies. I also work part time at Payless Shoes. Hopefully it will become more than 18 hours a week, though. It should. It's an okay job. So far I prefer Sally's, but that's just not an option right now.
People at Payless dress nice... upon getting hired I went shopping. I spent probably 300 bucks on clothes and my hair. It felt good. I have girly clothes. They're fun sometimes. Other times I really miss wearing my big baggy shorts and goodwill t-shirts. Jamie's turned me into a girl... long hair and all... can you believe it? I don't mind... most of the time.
I wish I had some cookies right now...
So yeah.. I don't think I've written about my pa. Turns out he's got colon cancer. That sucks. Yes indeedy. So he started radiation and chemo a few weeks ago... and now he's already done with it! Hooray! He didn't get sick or anything because he carried his chemo with him... so it was much better for him. I am glad. Now he has to meet with his surgeon to set a date to take it out! I'm excited. It'll all be good and he will be all okay. He's feeling pretty good, and that makes me happy. Hooray. :)
So right now I'm sitting on my butt waiting for jamie to get home from class. I want a hug! :) |
